About Greg
Greg Jukes (he/him) is a versatile and innovative performer, educator, and arts administrator whose career spans a wide range of disciplines and achievements. From his early days of drumming on pots and pans to co-founding the hybrid arts ensemble The Fourth Wall, Greg’s life has been driven by his love for music and performance.
Greg’s formal music education began with drum lessons at the age of five and led to a Bachelor of Music in percussion performance from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University. Initially envisioning a career as a percussionist in the back of an orchestra, Greg’s path took an exciting turn when he discovered the thrill of combining music with speaking and acting. This epiphany fueled his passion for creating multidisciplinary performances that integrate music, theater, dance, and acrobatics.
As a co-founder of The Fourth Wall, Greg has performed extensively across North America and internationally, including a 51-show run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The ensemble’s unique approach has been lauded for its “deft choreography” (Wall Street Journal) and innovative artistry. Beyond performance, Greg serves as The Fourth Wall’s CEO, board president and treasurer, handling financial and operational management including tax filings, payroll, and grant writing to ensure the organization's sustainability and growth.
Greg's administrative acumen extends to other projects as well. He helped create then managed the Beat Bus project, reaching hundreds of children in the greater Boston area through interactive electronic bucket drumming workshops. His leadership roles include serving as president and treasurer of The Fourth Wall’s board of directors and collaborating with arts organizations like Kadence Arts and the Boston Circus Guild.
Another core aspect of Greg’s creative output is bringing classical music to life through engaging storytelling as a narrator with symphony orchestras. Greg made his greatest impact narrating Russell Peck’s “The Thrill of the Orchestra” with the National Philharmonic, reaching nearly 100,000 second graders over the course of seven years. In addition to performing iconic works like the Peck and Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf”, Greg has carved out a niche for himself writing custom scripts to accompany orchestral classics such as Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite” and Holst’s “The Planets” and turning sprawling epics like Wagner’s “Ring” cycle into concert-length experiences.
Greg's freelance percussion career is similarly diverse, featuring performances with ensembles like Emperor Norton’s Stationary Marching Band, MF Dynamics, and the Flynn Creek Circus. His teaching endeavors include masterclasses, workshops, and private lessons, where he inspires the next generation of musicians.
Greg lives in Somerville, MA just outside Boston with his wife Alexis Hedrick (an amazing circus artist!) and many house plants. When not performing or advising, Greg enjoys cooking, spending time in nature, and indoor rock climbing.
Greg's multifaceted talents and passion for the arts make him a dynamic and influential figure in the arts community, continually pushing the boundaries of performance and education.
